Justice Aravind Kumar was born on 14 July 1962 in Karnataka. He enrolled as an advocate in 1987, practised before trial courts and the Karnataka High Court, and served as Assistant Solicitor General of India from 2005.
He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on 26 June 2009 and served as Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court from 13 October 2021 before his Supreme Court elevation on 13 February 2023.
His rulings have addressed disability accommodation in employment, municipal property acquisition, and capital punishment, including setting aside a death sentence on the "rarest of rare" doctrine.
