Biography

[01]Biography

Justice J.B. Pardiwala is the fourth Parsi judge of the Supreme Court. Born and educated in Valsad, Gujarat, he enrolled as an advocate in January 1989 and began practising at the Gujarat High Court from 1990, becoming its Standing Counsel in 2002.

He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court on 17 February 2011 and became a Permanent Judge on 28 January 2013, before his Supreme Court appointment on 9 May 2022. He is expected to serve as Chief Justice of India beginning May 2028.

His docket is dominated by criminal matters and he has sat on several landmark constitutional benches, including rulings that struck down the Electoral Bond Scheme, upheld the 10% EWS reservation, and held that states can tax mines and minerals with retrospective effect.
