Biography

[01]Biography

Justice M.M. Sundresh was born on 21 July 1962 in Erode, Tamil Nadu; his father V.K. Muthusamy was a Senior Advocate at the Madras High Court. He enrolled at the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu in 1985 and served as Government Counsel from 1991 to 1996.

He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Madras High Court on 31 March 2009 and became a Permanent Judge on 29 March 2011, before his Supreme Court appointment on 31 August 2021.

He is widely known for his landmark judgment in Satender Kumar Antil v CBI, making comprehensive recommendations for bail law reform to address undertrial prisoner overcrowding. He has also issued progressive rulings on juvenile justice and wildlife conservation.
