P.V. Sanjay Kumar

Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar was born on 14 August 1963 in Hyderabad; his father P. Ramachandra Reddy was a Senior Advocate and former Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh (1969–1982). He served as Government Pleader for Andhra Pradesh from 2000 to 2003.

He served on three High Courts — Andhra Pradesh, Punjab & Haryana, and Manipur — holding the position of Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court (2021–2023) before his Supreme Court elevation on 6 February 2023.

His criminal law docket dominates his Supreme Court work. He issued notable orders on religious dress codes in educational institutions and on the Manipur ethnic-violence crisis, directing the government to disclose details of properties destroyed.
