Justice R. Mahadevan was born on 10 June 1963 in Chennai. He enrolled at the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in 1989 and practised law for over 20 years across indirect taxes, customs, central excise, civil, criminal, and writ matters.
He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Madras High Court on 25 October 2013 and became a Permanent Judge on 14 April 2015. He served as Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court before his Supreme Court elevation on 18 July 2024.
