Biography

[01]Biography

Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was born on 2 August 1964 in Guwahati; his father, Senior Advocate Suchendra Nath Bhuyan, was a former Advocate General of Assam. He specialised in revenue, labour, and taxation law and served as Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department from 1995 to 2011.

He was elevated as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 17 October 2011 and served as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court from 28 June 2022 before his Supreme Court elevation on 14 July 2023.

His docket covers taxation, criminal law, and civil liberties matters, including notable bail rulings in high-profile Delhi excise policy cases.
