Vikram Nath
Biography
Justice Vikram Nath graduated from the University of Lucknow and practised law for 17 years before his elevation to the Allahabad High Court as Additional Judge on 24 September 2004, becoming a Permanent Judge on 27 February 2006.
After over a decade on the Allahabad bench he was transferred as Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court in September 2019. He was appointed to the Supreme Court on 31 August 2021 and is set to become the Chief Justice of India on 9 February 2027.
His judgments have principally addressed criminal matters (30%), service law (22%), civil disputes (13%), and property rights (13%). Notable rulings include rejecting Rath Yatra permission during COVID-19, and affirming that consideration for promotion is a fundamental right.
